Extreme care has gone into ensuring that these masks match the original precisely, preserving the uneven spacing that gives it the right look. For the front mask, overlays were created from original footage to ascertain what the shape of the open areas in the original mask were. This got the graphic almost all the way there, and with some help from Bill Hedges and his invaluable blueprint collection, 100% accuracy was acheived.
The transparencies are an opaque black on a clear substrate that is ready to be attached to clear disks. This method allows for extreme precision in presentation and eliminates the tedious, imprecise and messy prospect of attempting to achieve the effect with tape or paint.
Once assembled, the effect is completed by rotating the inner graphic over filtered light.
